A little bit about the writer:

I am an author, poet and community organizer originally based in Northern California. As a multi-racial Muslimah, I am rooted in Black liberation theology as defined through the legacy of Malcolm X. I enjoys spending time in nature, dancing and storytelling. On any given day, you'll find me either sitting beside my cat and pile of half-read books, or developing a new self-care routine.

Ruptures do not always cause earthquakes.


Allow yourself the honor

of breaking apart.


Your blood is but a Red Sea

lain within you.

Do not prepare to swim when you must merely take a step.


Musa did not ponder the waves

he joined them.

The drowned are only ever those who have feared drowning.


Be not Pharoah on the shore of your soul

but be like Musa.
