On Friday, September 27, some of the Mu Delta Alpha sisters and I embarked on a journey outside of the NYU campus. It wasn’t your typical boring academic field trip– it was spiritual, yet rewarding at the same time! We decided to take a break from the academic stress caused by the Fall semester so far and visit some mosques within New York City.
This event was a beautiful time for us to all come together as sisters and reflect upon each of our Islamic journeys. Each of the places we visited were so peaceful and calming, and it was such a great reminder to really take advantage of the beauty of Islam. Our deen is one of the most valuable aspects as Muslims, and should always be prioritized within our college careers.

This masjid was so peaceful to be in, and a perfect first stop of our trip. There was a whole floor primarily for women, as well as a private area women could sit and pray within. My sisters and I spent a significant amount of time in the prayer room praying, making dua and dhikr and talking about our goals Islamically as sisters. It was really nice to be in a calming environment like this one after a very long time, so if you are ever in the Brooklyn area and need a masjid to visit, this one's for you!

Our next stop on our Mosque hopping trip was this beautiful bookstore in Brooklyn. It was right next door to Masjid Al-Farooq, which was so convenient! I was mesmerized by the amount of Islamic books available within any topic, whether it was marriage, the Holy Quran, prayer, Fiqh and Islamic Law as well as proper etiquette within Islam. My sisters and I took some time reading books we were interested in, as well as admired the importance of our religion.
We even ended up having a pretty good conversation and read about the idea of music in Islam, which was pretty eye-opening and necessary, especially in a society and generation like ours today! It was also really beautiful listening to the Holy Quran playing throughout the entire store, and made us feel more at ease. This bookstore is conveniently available for all of your Islamic needs, so feel free to stop by or visit their website linked above!
Location: 5320 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
Our final stop was the Muslim Community Center, and was a promising final stop in our Islamic journey. The sisters’ floor was filled with energy and positivity, and was beautifully decorated with fairy lights and a huge Crescent moon sign. We even enjoyed free coffee and prayed together, and were warmly welcomed! It was such a beautiful community to be a part of, and I can’t wait to return again with my sisters! If you’re looking to be a part of a thriving environment in Brooklyn, the MCC is the best spot!
That concludes my wonderful Masjid hopping trip with my sisters! I hope you end up visiting some of these Islamic sites too with your friends or family and end up feeling rejuvenated and more at peace.
